First NIJ Fellowship Awarded to UCF

David Nash, a PhD student in Chemistry received the university’s first National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Graduate Research Fellowship in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics award of $50,000. Nash and his advisor and physics professor Richard Blair have developed a tool to assist law enforcement in identifying illegal drugs more rapidly, accurately and safely.

The NIJ is the research-funding branch of the Department of Justice. Annually, it provides monetary awards to a handful of graduate students to conduct research in the social or physical science fields that will help the criminal justice, law enforcement, or forensic communities.
