Natasha Stubbs Joins the College of Graduate Studies in Academic Support Services

The College of Graduate Studies today welcomes Natasha Stubbs, PhD, as Director of Academic Support Services.

The Miami native comes to UCF by way of Nova Southeastern University where she has served as a program coordinator for the past seven years. Before that, she was a director and assistant dean at Florida International University.

She has a broad array of experience including

• Monitoring student academic progress
• Providing leadership and policy direction in interpreting and implementing university policies for students, faculty, and staff
• Developing university policies for student, faculty, and staff
• Facilitating curricular updates of degree audits and transcript updates related to transfer credit, academic standing, and change of grade requests
• Processing degree verification requests from licensing boards across the nation
• Overseeing the grade submission and change of grade process
• Facilitating grade disputes by advising professors and students of the process, investigating cases, and determining a decision
• Coordinating course schedules and academic calendars for graduate students enrolled across multiple campus locations

While serving as assistant dean, Dr. Stubbs decided to go back to school to earn her doctorate at Barry University. She has three advanced degrees in counseling and higher education administration and more than 15 years of administrative experience at public and private universities.

“While earning a master’s degree in school counseling, I worked part-time as an academic advisor at a community college and really enjoyed the experience,” Dr. Stubbs says. “I was approached by a colleague about applying for a full-time opportunity but decided against it. Instead, I pursued a school counseling position out of state. Upon relocating back to Florida and applying for school counseling positions as well as academic advising positions, an opportunity to work in higher education came about. I’ve remained in higher education since.” 

Dr. Stubbs will be overseeing academic services, progress, and graduation at UCF. She will work with Associate Dean Barbara Fritzsche on a range of topics from academic progress to thesis and dissertation committee items and graduate appeals.

She begins working in the college remotely today and will move to the Orlando area in July. Stubbs says she is looking forward to her first commencement this summer.

“Of all the traditions, the one I enjoy most is commencement,” she says. “Celebrating the accomplishments of students is gratifying.”
