The center’s goal is to better understand how directed energy works, to develop innovative solutions to challenges facing us both today, and in the future, and to train the workforce needed to manage and advance the field in the private and public sectors.

UCF Leads 14 Talks at DEPS Conference

UCF was well represented at the three-day DEPS Advanced High-Power Laser and Beam Control Conference earlier this month.

The annual conference showcases the best of High Energy Laser research and includes 30-minute talks on a variety of topics.

Seven doctoral students, a post-doctoral scholar, and three faculty members represented UCF and its Center for Directed Energy. The center was established in 2020.

Students Justin Cook and Nicholas Vail and Research professor Yehuda Braiman and courtesy research professors Kenneth Schepler and Nathan Bodnar presented papers on new laser developments.

Students Juan Carlos Zacarias and Matthew Cooper and Post-doctoral Researcher Daniel Cruz-Delgado presented papers about fiber laser technologies for directed energy.

Students Layton Hall, Jessica Pena, and Haley Kerrigan along with post-doctoral researcher Danielle Reyes and courtesy research professor Kenneth Schepler presented on ultrafast lasers and their applications.
