Nik Lampe is a graduate of the Master of Arts in applied sociology, where their research is focused on health, gender, and sexualities in the experiences of LGBTQIA populations. Lampe was committed to uncovering broader processes of social and health disparities faced by these populations and also committed to personally developing as health, gender, and sexualities researcher in this field.

A native of Indiana, Lampe chose to study at UCF because of the range of faculty, graduate students, and resources that the school has to offer, which, as Lampe points out, are beneficial to their continued development as a scholar, as well as to their long-term career goals. The diversity that UCF has to offer is an important aspect to Lampe, who says, “My overall research trajectory matches the diverse interests, methodologies, and theories of faculty and students at UCF, which allows me to collaborate with other interdisciplinary scholars on multiple projects while engaging in the shared values of intellectual commitment in the Department of Sociology.”

It is working with the faculty in the Department of Sociology that Lampe names as their favorite part of their program. Specifically, Lampe has praised Dr. Shannon Carter, Dr. Lin Huff-Corzine, and Dr. Jay Corzine, all of whom, Lampe says, have given them important and useful skills and lessons. Due in part to the guidance from these professors, as well as other faculty members, Lampe’s research, resulted in one paper award, grant funding, one journal article, one chapter in an edited volume, two manuscripts, and three papers.
