Getting Your Ducks In A Row

Before filing your intent to graduate (ITG), check your Graduate Plan of Study (GPS) to make sure that all requirements are in progress, have been met, or will be met by the end of the term.

Please schedule a meeting with your Graduate Program Director or advisor to verify all your requirements will be completed.

Holds

If you see a hold or service indicator on your GPA, you should take the necessary actions to get it resolved. Holds may be placed on your record for various reasons and may restrict any or all of the following: course registration, the release of grades, the release of transcripts, and the release of diplomas. To learn more about holds, visit the Holds page. You may also want to follow up with your graduate program or department.

Courses and Requirements

All sections in the GPS that require courses to be completed should have a status of “Satisfied” or “In Progress.” If there are any sections with courses that show as “Not Satisfied,” you’ll want to reach out to your Graduate Program Director or advisor as soon as possible.

Program GPA

Your Program GPA should be a minimum of a 3.0. If your Program GPA is below a 3.0 at the start of the semester, you must be enrolled in graded coursework that could raise your GPA. Thesis and Dissertation courses are not factored into the Program GPA. A 3.0 Program GPA will be required at the end of the term for your degree to be awarded.

Thesis and Dissertation Milestones

Thesis and Dissertation milestones may show as “Not Satisfied” until near the end of the semester. This is acceptable if you are working to complete the final steps by the deadlines established for your final semester.

Thesis and dissertation students planning to graduate within a given semester must meet the following deadlines on the UCF Academic Calendar each semester:

For additional information and resources, go to the College of Graduate Studies Thesis and Dissertation webpage or reach out to editor@ucf.edu.

If any of these steps aren’t completed before your graduating term’s deadlines or if you need to postpone to the next semester, your intent to graduate will need to be withdrawn. Please speak with your Graduate Program Director or advisor regarding this process. You will then need to file a new intent to graduate (ITG) for the next semester and follow the new milestone deadlines.

Checklists

Checklist items appear at the bottom of the GPS. These are non-curricular requirements that must be completed for a student to graduate. All checklists should have a status of “Complete.” If you have a checklist item that is still marked as “Initiated,” please reach out to your Graduate Program Director or advisor to see what needs to be resolved. Many checklist items are required to be completed well in advance of your graduating term, like your Program of Study checklist or Academic Integrity workshops. However, it is your responsibility to check the statuses and ensure they are completed.
